Hanson
cargo racks are available in a variety of combinations
to suit your needs. To mount any of the racks, you
must have the Hanson rear bumper and tire/utility
carrier.
Four
styles of racks are available:
U-Platform
The large U-Style platform mounts to the mid section
of the tire/utility carrier with Lower L brackets.
These brackets slip into the open tops of the outside
uprights of the tire/utility frame. A snug fit and
bracing feet assure a rattle free combination. The
platform then mounts to the Lower L brackets, hugging
the spare tire. The tire size with "L"
brackets is limited to 35.5" actual dimension.
Lower pressure can achieve this with a slightly
larger tire. This limitation is for the extraction
of the platform / "L" brackets when your
spare needs to be used.
The U-Platform
provides a great amount of storage space. It is
50" wide and the main area behind the tire
is 32" wide x 16" deep. This area behind
the tire is left without a top border rail. In this
configuration it Is better to be called a platform.
This will allow slightly oversized items to be strapped
down to the floor and if they over hang the sides
a little, it doesn’t matter, they’ll
tie down fine. This open rear part of the platform
makes an obstruction free area for camp stove operation,
sitting on, or throwing downed game on a bit easier.
There is an upper rail on the sides, front and around
the spare. The original concept of this platform
was to carry cargo in the back and fluid containers
on each side of the tire. The sides that are captured
by an 8” high rail is 7” x 14”.
This is a dimension that works with Blitz cans,
plastic jugs, NATO cans or various other things.
Flooring is .100 smooth aluminum to be fastened
with 3/16” rivets after painting.
Small
Platform
The Small Platform is 38" wide x 16" deep
and can mount in two places. It can attach to the
Lower L brackets instead of the U-Style, or to a
Tall Upper Frame to mount above the spare tire.
Using the short cargo frame and ‘L’
brackets, two of these small units could be used.
As far as a description of this platform goes, it
consists of the floor dimensions given earlier with
only an 8” tall forward bar at 38” width
of the platform. This will, as mentioned earlier,
allow cots, tents, tables, or whatever to overhang
the deck some without a rail issue.
Small
Basket
Now, after all this platform talk, there is truth
to the rumor that we will continue making the small
basket for a while longer. These are built off the
small platform base with a 4” tall rail all
the way around. Both get a .100 aluminum floor as
does the ‘U’ platform.
Side
Platforms
On the cargo deck concepts would be the side platforms.
What the heck are these you wonder? Well, they are
Hanson’s attempt to eliminate having to build
specific size baskets for every different fluid
container that has ever been produced. Well here
it is again, start with a 13 x 7" floor, with
aluminum of course, and put one end and a back tube
on it at a height of 12". A pair of thee bolted
to the tall cargo frame will allow the transport
of various size items on each side of the spare.
As with all the cargo units there are strap attaching
points under the lower frame tubes and everything
being transported must be strapped securely anyway.
Frame
Extensions
Here's the situation...Say you want to take a road
trip with your whole family in the Jeep...let say
you talked your wife into Moab. You will need both
of your platforms to carry all your stuff...clothes,
toothbrush, etc., but when you get there, you plan
on hitting all the more difficult trails. Trails
that might come in contact with your lower platform.
You want to use your upper platform on the trails,
so you could carry a tall frame with you on the
trip. It's big, costly and the upper platform has
to be unbolted from the short frame and mounted
to the tall frame. OR...you buy the short frame
instead of the tall frame can carry a pair of frame
extensions! A very inexpensive and small package
that gives you the freedom of using any platform
combination. You can leave your lower platform at
the hotel or camp site and go wheeling and not have
to worry about bashing your lower platform! We are
off roaders, ya know. Anyone with "L"-brackets
and a short cargo frame, should consider getting
frame extensions.
Aux
Pin Yoke
With any addition to a tire/utility carrier for
the use of expanding load capacity beyond a tire,
an auxiliary pin yoke will be required on the first
expansion of the carrier. After the first addition,
you will have the auxiliary pin yoke - so go for
it if you want more stuff later. If you order more
later, be sure you indicate that an auxiliary weight
bearing system is in place and another is not needed
or we will get you for another one.
Note:
TJ’s with hard tops have a clearance issue
with the cargo frames, short or tall, that put the
platform over the tire. To open the tops rear door,
the tire/utility carrier must be opened beyond the
detent rods lock position. Care must be taken if
a ‘U’ or side platforms are used. They
get real close to the hard top before the tops door
will open.
Predrilled
holes are not provided for every combination (some
drilling required)
